With my earlier overlapping pieces, it was hard to rotate them to study it from different orientations. Fortunately, these larger pieces have more integrity and can withstand the occasional rotation. I think part of this is because they take longer to make so the clay is drying and stiffening a bit as I slowly progress. With the other pieces, I could quickly tack limbs together but my impatience would inevitably have me trying to handle it too early.
The wire I used to find the form is leftover from when I worked on some bonsai and pre-bonsais while I still lived in London. Unfortunately I had to leave the bonsai behind, but I’ve still got the wire. it works in a pinch for slicing clay, acting as placeholders for pieces and making tiny tools.
