day 4 of 30
Sorry for the slightly out of focus video. Sometimes my camera acts up, and I failed to notice until the piece was done.
I’ve been using air dry clay in lieu of traditional stoneware clay which requires a kiln. It’s definitely a more expensive material by weight, but the upside has been that I can work from my own apartment and let the pieces harden without need for special equipment while I decide how invested I want to get with the media.
There have been a couple downsides though: it is not food safe, and it is far more brittle in its dried state than a properly fired clay. I also can’t finish the material with traditional glazes. I haven’t spent much time researching alternate solutions though simply because I do like the natural finish of the material.
