It’s fascinating how the drums we own can tell us so much a single idea can change over time.
The Ludwig 14” x 5” Acrolite is an excellent example.
Since the 1960s, we have seen the Ludwig Acrolite develop in not just look but sound.
From what I have heard, the 60’s version of the Acrolite is the brightest, the ’70s is versatile, and the 80s and ’90s seemed to mellow out.
These differences had a lot to do with the change in ownership that intrinsically changed how they manufactured these drums.
That’s why, when it comes to vintage drums, you have to understand what you have, so when you play, you are just amplifying what is already there.

- 2.3mm chrome hoops (both sides)
- Internal muffler
- Vintage Rounded 45° bearing edges
- Classic bow tie lugs
- p85 throw off & Ludwig butt plate
