“Keep a green bough in your heart and the singing bird will come.” This jewelry dish features the cardinal, a symbol of abundance and good luck and vitality since ancient times. The cardinal's red color is beautiful thing to see throughout the seasons, even in winter, giving strength and hope to those around. Although I live in San Diego now, I grew up in Ohio where it is the state bird and a beloved sight. The plant used to create this dish is thyme. Thyme symbolizes courage and strength. Keep these things green in your heart, and the singing bird will come.
Real thyme sprigs are used to make the imprint for the branches, and the tiny cardinal is sculpted by hand, joined while the clay is still soft.
This ceramic jewelry holder is made from smooth porcelain-like stoneware clay, dried, bisque fired, colored and glazed, and then fired once more in my pottery kiln above 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. Real 22kt gold details are hand painted and then fired onto the piece in a special process for ceramics.
I hope you enjoy these moments in the process and I hope the little stories I tell with clay bring a moment of calm to you, transporting you somewhere peaceful and quiet for just a bit. #cardinal #natureinspired #art #ceramics
