Sculptor Bruno Catalano’s distinctive style started with a mistake.

This hollow man has been hanging out on Park Avenue in Manhattan, in the shadow of the Empire State Building, for the last year. He is a member of a worldwide army of hollow people. This breed was born in 2004, when sculptor Bruno Catalano received a casting mistake from the foundry with a large breach in the body of the human figure. Instead of sending it back, Catalano increased the gap, and his signature style was born. Twenty years later, he’s still producing, and selling, these people, who telegraph existential emptiness to a receptive art audience.
