In this lesson, we explore the foundation rhythm pattern that works across countless songs and styles. Often called a “survival groove,” it balances a steady left-hand bass motion with staccato right-hand chords, creating an instantly usable groove. You’ll learn how to alternate between root and fifth, use passing notes, and add triad bass movement to make the rhythm flow naturally.
This pattern is extremely versatile - it appears in gospel, folk, party songs, and even Beatles arrangements. It’s not just accompaniment; it’s also a way to compose or survive on stage when improvising with singers or bands.
