This is Steve Winterburn and his art process will blow your mind with it's intensity and craftsmanship. It begins by Winterburn creating an intricate clay sculpture of a subject. He then creates a rubber mold which captures all the fine details. The mold is then used to create a wax replica of the sculpture. He dips the wax model in a ceramic slurry and coats with sand. He then leaves this ceramic shell to dry and harden. The shell is heated in a kiln, causing the wax inside to melt away, leaving a hollow ceramic mold. He then carefully pours molten bronze into the ceramic mold, filling the space left by the wax. Once the bronze has cooled, the shell is broken away, revealing a rough bronze sculpture. Any imperfections are smoothed out and the sculpture is heated and treated with chemicals to achieve the desired colour and finally his masterpiece is complete.
