Josef Maria Olbrich was an Austrian architect and one of the key figures of the Vienna Secession movement. He is best known for his design of the Secession Building (also known as the Vienna Secession), located in Vienna, Austria.

The Secession Building was constructed between 1897 and 1898 as an exhibition hall for the Vienna Secession, a group of artists who sought to break away from traditional academic art and promote new, innovative styles. Olbrich's design for the building was highly unconventional and represented a departure from the prevailing architectural norms of the time.

The building is characterized by its dome-shaped roof, which is covered with gilt laurel leaves. The dome is topped with a sculpture known as the "Golden Cabbage," created by Franz von Matsch. The exterior of the building features a geometric pattern of squares and rectangles, along with a frieze designed by Gustav Klimt, one of the leading members of the Vienna Secession.

Inside the Secession Building, there is a main exhibition hall called the Beethoven Frieze, which was also designed by Gustav Klimt. The frieze depicts a series of allegorical figures and scenes inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

The Secession Building stands as a significant example of Art Nouveau architecture and remains an important cultural landmark in Vienna. It continues to serve as an exhibition space for contemporary art and hosts various art events and installations. The building's unique design and its association with the Vienna Secession make it an important part of architectural history.
