Simon Russell Beale (The Lehman Trilogy) and Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) feature in a new version of the farcical London Assurance, about life, love and mistaken identity in 19th century London.
This rollicking comedy tells the story of ageing dandy Sir Harcourt Courtly and his plans to marry a young woman, Grace. But his son Charles turns up, in disguise, and also falls for Grace. The second snag is Sir Harcourt's attraction towards the married Lady Gay Spanker.
Michelle Terry plays Grace and Paul Ready plays Charles. Originally written by Dion Boucicault, Nicholas Hytner directs Richard Bean's comedy, captured by National Theatre Live in 2010. It is available for educational establishments to watch with the National Theatre Collection.
