In this piano lesson video, I'm using an effective technique to sharpen the student's sight-reading abilities. As the child plays through a piece, I'm covering the measure that the student is playing with a small sheet of paper. This "measure masking" approach forces the student to read ahead the next measure while simultaneously playing the previous one. This multitasking challenge enhances focus, concentration, and the ability to process visual information rapidly.
Sight-reading, the skill of reading and performing a piece of music for the first time, is an invaluable asset for any musician. This exercise cultivates crucial abilities like quickly processing musical notation, maintaining a steady rhythm, and developing an intuitive feel for melodic and harmonic progressions.
