1. DK DC calls on public to cooperate to contain Covid third wave
Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Rajendra K. V. on Wednesday January 5 said that the weekend curfew will be in place from this week onwards in the District as per State Government's new guidelines. Addressing mediapersons here the DC said, "The curfew will be on from Friday 8.00 pm till Monday 5.00 am. However, the bus transport has been allowed during the weekend curfew. Shops selling essential commodities are allowed to open so that the people can buy required commodities from shops near to their localities,” he said. Further, the DC has instructed the authrorities concerned to grant holidays to schools and colleges during the weekend curfew. However, examinations will be held as usual.
2.Case filed against passenger for assaulting KSRTC bus conductor in Sullia
Mangaluru: A complaint has been filed with the Bellare Police Station by a KSRTC bus conductor alleging assault by a bus passenger. Purushotham, a passenger from Ivarnadu, had given Rs. 100 for a Rs. 10 ticket to Bellare from Ivarnadu. As the conductor, Vasantha K. R., was short on change, he told the passenger that the balance money will be returned later. When the bus arrived at Bellare, a passenger asked for Rs. 90, and the conductor alighted to get change. Purushotham, however, reportedly missed a bus heading for Puttur as a result of the delay and got into a verbal spat with the conductor over it. Purushotham assaulted the conductor as the fight escalated.
3. Speed up handing over process of four-lane from BC Road to Addahole for public use: MP Kateel
Mangaluru: The four-lane works of the highway between BC Road and Addahole has been completed. I urge the authorities concerned to handover the four-lane for public use as early as possible, said State BJP President and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. He was speaking at the District Coordination and In-Charge Committee meet at Zilla Panchayat Auditorium here on Thursday January 6. The visit of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari which to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District which was scheduled for Sunday January 9 has been postponed due to Covid third wave. However, the road works should go on as planned, Kateel asserted.
4. Saxaphone artistes from Dharmasthala felcitated in Dubai
Mangaluru: The special invitees from India, the Doordarshan and Akashvani A Grade saxaphone artistes, the team of D. B. Prakash Devadiga from Dharmasthala were felicitated at a programme, 'Vishesha Sambrama' held in Main Ballroom of Park Hyatt, Dubai Creek on December 26. They also played saxophone at the programme. Dubai Devadigara Sangha President Dinesh Devadiga, Akhila Bharata Tulukoota President Dharmapal Devadiga Mumbai, Mumbai Devadiga Sangha President Ravi Devadiga, and Businessmen Narayana Devadiga as well as Suresh Devadiga, Dubai felicitated the artistes. The other felicitated team artistes were P. Haridas Dogra, Belthangady, Honnappa Devadiga, Ballamanja, and Suman Rajaratnam Devadiga.

Mangaluru: The agriculture sector in India has seen a severe drop in labour availability over the last decade. With the shift in trend, it is now more important than ever to adopt and adapt to innovations and technologies to overcome these problems in the agricultural sector. Former Lt. Army Officer Gajanana Vaze, also a farmer from Mundaje Village in Belthangady Taluk, has built a ropeway to transfer his harvest to his home. The simple and innovative technique has become incredibly useful to many as the agricultural sector's labour need persists. Speaking to News Karnataka Vaze said, “I worked as a high school Science teacher for 25 years and was a former territorial army officer. In 2005, I voluntarily resigned from my position as a teacher and entered into the agricultural field and looked after my ancestral property. In 2008, I travelled to Israel with a group of 23 farmers to learn about the scientific way of agriculture.” When asked about why he decided to come up with the ropeway he said, “The arecanut at my place was ready to be harvested and there was a labour shortage. I needed to transport it to my house somehow but I couldn't find labourers. I couldn’t do it myself as I have severe back pain. So, at the time, I decided to develop a simple method for transporting the crop and came up with ropeway installation. My friend Gajanana, a retired ACF officer, assisted me, and we planned and discussed how it could be achieved together."
