1. Eminent Tulu Theatre stalwarts and cine artistes Bhojaraj Vamanjoor and Aravind Bolar conferred Rotary Annual State Level prestigious, 'Vandana Award'
Mangaluru: Eminent Tulu Theatre stalwarts and Popular cine artistes Bhojaraj Vamanjoor and Aravind Bolar have been conferred with the Rotary Annual State Level prestigious Vandana Award at a function held at Kanara Club, Mangaluru on Thursday April 28. The award is conferred on them in recognition of their exemplary achievements and in appreciation of their invaluable contributions in the field of Tulu, Art and Culture. The award is jointly instituted by Rotary Club of Mangalore Central and Rotaract Club of Mangalore City. Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar graced the occasion as Chief Guest and congratulated them. He also lauded the Rotary Clubs community service rendered by the Rotary and recognising the achievers  and honouring them.  Mangalore Citizens are peace lovers and obey law and order, and government directions, he added. Chairman of the Award Selection Committee Dr. Devdas Rai in his introductory address revealed that the Annual Vandana Award is conferred on exemplary achievers and it is a part of the club’s vocational service project. He Congratulated Bhojaraj Vamanjoor and Aravind Bolar on their unique achievements in the field of entertainment and Tulu Film Industry. Responding the felicitations the awardees expressed their gratitude to the Rotary Club and said that they deemed it as a privilege and honour to accept the Awards, which is very valuable among the awards they have won.  President Rtn. Ramashesha Shetty presided over the function. District Assistant Governor Rtn. Raghavendra released the Club Weekly News Bulletin “Centor”.   Secretary Rtn. Jagannath Shetty presented the Monthly Report, Past President Rtn. Prakash Chandra President Elect Rtn. Saibaba Rao, District Rotaract Representative Rtr. Deryl Steven D’Souza, Rotaract Club President Rtr. Nishan were present. Rotaract Club Secretary Rtr. Arjun Prakash proposed the vote of thanks. This event is sponsored by Rtn. Nithin Shetty and Rtn. Srinivas Shetty. Rtn. S. S. Nayak compered the programme.


2. Malady: Forest Department traps female leopard
Udupi: A leopard was trapped in a cage placed at the plantation at Malady by the Forest Department in the morning of Thursday April 28. Since 2018 this is the fifth leopard trapped at this plantation near Sri Nandikeshwara Temple.


3. Elderly beggar woman donates alms for Annadana in temples
Mangaluru: In a world full of selfishness, an 80-year-old woman from Mangaluru and hailing from Kundapura has set an example as far as charity is concerned. Ashwathamma has been begging in front of the Polali Rajarajeshwari Temple for the past several years. The religiously conscious Ashwathamma then decided to beg in front of the temple after her husband's death. However, she has donated more than Rs. 6 lakh to temples and ashrams from her alms.

4. CM Bommai inaugurates Adalita Soudha in Moodabidri
Mangaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday April 27, inaugurated the newly constructed Adalita Soudha, Taluk Administrative Office built at a cost of Rs. 10 Crore in front of Moodabidri Taluk Administration Building in Dakshina Kannada district. The 10,000-square-foot building was constructed in just 1 year, 3 months. The building has Jain style of architecture.


5. M’luru: Megalithic burial site found at Kadaba
Mangaluru: A peculiar type of rock-cut-cave has been found at Aturu-Kundaje Government cashewnut plantation near Ramakunja of Kadaba Taluk in Dakshina Kannada District. Megalithic culture was a dominating culture of South India and Karnataka as well, states Professor Murugeshi T., Associate Professor and Department of History and Archaeology Head, MSRS College, Shirva, in a press release. In the case which is presently under study, there is no central opening but a huge engraving of a circle about of 7 feet diameter found above the laterite surface and exactly below this in same dimension a hemispherical cave with a side opening about a 2 feet in height has been found.
