????Alley of the Crushers
Painting in Reverse:
I retrained my brain. Painting on a gel plate for a monotype requires you to think about the final layers first and the other layers and underpainting last.
You can’t retouch and area (at least not easily). I start with planning my palette and using a small brush to add the colour details that will appear behind my monotype image transfer of my photograph. Then I think about the larger spaces and add those layers. Finally I consider the role of underpainting and how the transfer layer colour may influence the colours on the gel plat. Working on a piece of pleat lets me check the process. The more layers I add, the longer it will need to dry.
About this monotype: Vico dei Panettieri is a street in the historic center of Naples, Italy. Named for its history in flour milling, it was once called Vico Pistorius, which translates to 'Alley of the Crushers' in English, referring to the milling process where grain was pounded to make flour. This is why the monotype is titled 'Alley of the Crushers.' It connects Via dei Tribunali with Via San Biagio dei Librari.
Sales of my art through Saatchi, include shipping and Saatchi's Commission. I earn a small commission off of art supplies purchased from my Amazon Store Front. These are all art supplies she uses and highly recommends.
