A productive storm series continues across California, impacting the state from north to south as we head into the holiday weekend. This is the second system in an active series, and while there will be breaks between storms, the overall pattern remains wet and impactful.

Northern California is the main focus today, with steady rain and additional accumulation expected. So far, some areas have already picked up 2 to 3 inches of rain, with another 2 to 3 to 5 inches possible as this storm series continues through the weekend.

Snow levels remain relatively high at first, especially around Lake Tahoe, but lower snow elevations arrive Friday evening into Sunday. As colder air moves in, temperatures will drop below freezing at the mountain passes, increasing travel concerns. With warmer snow followed by colder snow, avalanche danger will be elevated in the Sierra.

King Tides are an issue through Sunday, creating coastal flooding concerns during high tide cycles. Along with that, wind advisories and warnings are in place, particularly across Southern California, including strong winds and a period of severe thunderstorms in parts of the San Diego area earlier today.

Friday appears to offer a brief break, but additional rounds of rain and mountain snow return quickly, keeping conditions unsettled through the weekend and beyond. While this storm series is beneficial overall, bringing much-needed water, it will still be active, wet, and occasionally hazardous, especially through today and the weekend.

Stay weather-aware, especially in flood-prone areas, along the coast during King Tides, and in the mountains where winter travel and avalanche risks remain high.
