$43K Jeff Koons ‘Balloon Dog’ Sculpture Shattered at Exhibit

One of artist Jeff Koons’ famous ‘balloon dog’ sculptures, believed to be worth approx $43,000, was tipped over and shattered at an art exhibit in Florida on Feb 16. The patron who knocked over the artwork was an adult woman who, according to the Miami Herald, had tapped the sculpture with her finger in order to test if it was really made of balloons (it’s not).

Not the case here. According to the Herald, the piece was covered by insurance and ‘the gallery took [its destruction] in stride.’

‘It was an event!’ another attendee told the Herald. ‘Everybody came to see what happened. It was like when Banksy’s artwork was shredded.’
