This is my BIGGEST WILD BROWN TROUT of the year and is truly the trout of a lifetime!!

The cicadas were screaming, a sound only overshadowed by the occasional train sliding down the tracks. The cold water rushed around my waders as a carefully walked up the stream, studying the run in front of me trying to decide if I wanted to fish it. See On a normal day I would pass this spot by, or maybe make a few casts as I walk through, but today something was different. Maybe it was the water levels, maybe one of the high water events changed the creek ever so sligglhty, or maybe it was the occasional cicada I could see buzzing over the water, But regardless of what it was I started casting. And then it happened, out of the corner of my eye I saw a fish rise, but not where I’d conventionally expect one to sit, and it was actually a behind me a little bit. It made me pause, momentary confused. Had I not just hit that? “There must be a weird current break there that I somehow missed” I thought, as I made a cast across the creek. Little did I know I was about to be locked in a battle with one of the biggest fish I’ve ever caught. Welcome back to another video.

On this particular day of fishing I actually wasn’t playing the weather like a typically do when I fish for brown trout. Instead I was depending on a cicada emergence that was hitting the area. It had only been going on for a week or less, a fact I only knew because I had been there with my brother a week prior and hadn’t seen many cicadas. But regardless I had decided to give every spot a shot with the dry fly before I did anything else.

Now at this point during the day I had caught a few decent fish, and I was having some moderate luck on the cicadas, but it seemed like the fish weren’t quite looking up yet. The cicadas also seemed to be super spotty, some locations had them and others didn’t. So I was beginning to get discouraged when I rolled up to my next spot.

After seeing that rise I decided I had better cast a cicada down that far current seem. But I’ll be honest my confidence was low because I swore I had hit that spot as I had walked up the creek. But then again, maybe there was something I had missed.

But after a dozen or more casts with the cicada I decided that either the fish didn’t like the fly I was throwing or couldn’t see it since the water was slightly off colored. So I decided to meet the fish on its level and throw a few nymphs through that far side.

So as I mentioned I didn’t have my bump bored with me at the time, which I’m not sure why. I mean it was literally in my car, I guess I just didn’t really expect to catch anything that large. I just hadn’t really put the time in this year so my expectations were low. But I did measure the fish on my rod and then I put my rod on the bump bored. I think the fish was 27 give or take, could’ve been 26 could’ve been bigger than 27 I’m not sure. But it honestly doesn’t matter because regardless of if the fish is 26, 27, or 28 it’s still the fish of a lifetime and one I’m incredibly fortunate and lucky to have caught. I’d like to emphasize lucky because where I caught that fish has never produced a big trout before, and I was literally ready to leave that section of water until I saw a dry fly raise across the creek from me. Even the drift I had when I caught that fish was directly across the creek from me meaning the fly had to have been dragging through the water when the fish ate. So I just feel incredibly fortunate to have caught that fish, and it just goes to show how just being out on the water and being aware of your surroundings can be the ticket to success. I’ve told many people since I caught this fish, which was caught about 2 months ago, that it might be the luckiest big fish I’ve ever caught. I’ve worked really hard and spent countless hours on the water throughout my life to get chances at fish like that, most of which are unsuccessful, and then one just fell onto my lap. BUT As I’ve said a million times, I’d rather be lucky than good. If you’ve made it this far into the video I did catch one other big brown trout on this particular day of fishing which is what ended my day, so I figured I’d include it because who doesn’t like big brown trout?

So that was my day of fishing!! I caught 2 brown trout over 20 inches with the biggest being the fish of a lifetime. As far as a fly fishing video goes it won't get much better than that. Thank you guys so much for watching and I'll catch you on the next one!
