Chopin: Etudes op. 25

Born in Shanghai, had his early musical training with his uncle Zhenyu Dong, he holds Master of Music degree from Shanghai Conservatory, and Graduate Performance Degree from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, his former teachers included Ya-Fei Chuang, Dr. Cheung-Yu Mo, Yi-Qiang Sun, and Qiaoyun Yang, .
Currently, he is continuing the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) with Polish-born Steinway Artist Adam Wodnicki, and working as Teaching Fellow at the North Texas University College of Music.
Yi has poetic sensitivities and richness in his musical language, his performance retains authentic, sometimes dramatic and organic interpretation, with brilliant technique, sometimes with eastern taste in his music. He is the top prize winner of the International Keyboard Odyssiad & Festival in 2019. In 2018, he and his quartet in Boston made recordings for Brahms Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, Op. 60, and won the Second prize in the Chamber Music Division of the 4th ENKOR International Music Competition. He was the third prize winner of the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival competition in 2013. In 2016, he was awarded the scholarship for the prestigious Mozarteum International Summer Music Festival in Salzburg.
From a young age, Yi has developed a deep and keen interest in collaboration. He appeared in the Mozart 150th Memorial Concert Series with Flutist Qi Wang at Shanghai Symphony Hall back in 2006. In 2017, he was invited to perform
Schumann Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44 with Faculty members of Boston Conservatory at Berklee including violinist Katie Lansdale, violist Lila Brown, and cellist Rhonda Rider in the Chamber Series Concert at Seully Hall in Boston. In 2018, he was invited to perform for the China and Turkey ExchangeInternational Musicians Concert Series in Suzhou. He has great passion in working with singers as well, in the summer of 2019, he accompanied for the whole Opera “Don Giovanni” for the Orchestra parts piano reduction version at Voertman Hall in Texas. Recently, he and his colleagues at UNT Center Triorecorded Beethoven Piano Trio Op.70 No.2 in E flat Major for Celebrating Beethoven's 250th Birthday.
Yi has been given recitals at Shanghai Symphony Hall, Shanghai Concert Hall, Hangzhou Grand Theater, Seully Hall in Boston, Voertman Hall in Texas, Griffin Concert Hall in Colorado and Kleines Studio in Salzburg. Yi had masterclass
experiences with great musicians including Alan L. Smith, Andrew Harley,
Arnaldo Cohen, Jean Barr, Jonathan Bass, Joseph Banowetz, Judith Gordon, New Zealand String Quartet, Kemal Gekic, Michael Chertock, Oleg Marshev, and Robert Levin.
