When should you head to the hospital in labor? Here’s my simple rule:
???? First-time moms:
• Contractions less than 4 minutes apart, lasting 60 seconds each, for 2 hours.
???? Second-time (or more) moms:
• Contractions less than 5 minutes apart, lasting 60 seconds each, for 1 hour.
Distance matters:
• Live more than 30 minutes away? Add 1 minute to those contraction intervals.
• Less than 15 minutes away? Take 1 minute off.
???? If your water breaks:
Follow the same rules, but if contractions don’t start within 10-12 hours, it’s time to come in for some extra help.
GBS positive? Double the intervals (8 minutes apart for first-time moms).
Stay calm, trust the process, and follow these guidelines to know when it’s go time!
