► Tesla now seems to be making the necessary preparations for a substantial increase in the production of Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y at the Shanghai Gigafactory next year. According to recent reports from China, Tesla has reportedly ordered 45 Gigawatt hour of lithium iron phosphate batteries from CATL, one of its main battery partners.
LFP batteries are currently used in Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus produced by Giga Shanghai. According to reports, these batteries are also used to power Tesla Model Y Standard Range. Chinese local news media 36 Krypton pointed out that considering that Model 3 Standard Range is equipped with 55 kWh batteries and Model Y Standard Range is equipped with 60 kWh battery packs, CATL’s 45 Gigawatt hour order can correspond to nearly 800,000 cars.
The production of nearly 800,000 standard range vehicles from the Shanghai Gigafactory can effectively increase Tesla's delivery volume next year and may enable the company to easily deliver more than 1 million cars in 2022. This is especially impressive considering that this year, Tesla’s global sales from Q1 to Q3 have stood at 627,350. Among this number, 614,165 were the 2021 Tesla Model 3 and 2021 Tesla Model Y. However, the report pointed out that Tesla's battery push would not only be focused on its China-based operations. Local media quoted industry sources as saying that Tesla's Gigafactory Nevada plant will also expand its production capacity to more than 40 Gigawatt hour next year. Interestingly, industry sources said that both Panasonic and LG Chem will participate in the expansion of the US battery plant.
Elon Musk even pointed out that Tesla's internal 4680 battery cell plan is in no way a sign that the company would abandon its battery partners. This is just one way for Tesla to increase battery supply for its growing line of electric vehicles and energy products.
► This week, Tesla's valuation exceeded $1 trillion for the first time. After Hertz rental car company ordered 100,000 cars from Tesla, the stock price soared.
On Wednesday, Hertz and Uber stated that they have established an exclusive partnership to provide up to 50,000 Tesla vehicles by 2023 for drivers who wish to rent electric vehicles while using the ride-hailing network.
► Moving on to the next update, the EV tax credit of $12,500 has been included in the latest revision of President Joe Biden’s "Rebuild Better Plan", which aims to put the United States on the path to achieving climate goals, growing the economy from the ground up.
However, electric vehicle enthusiasts are interested in reintroducing the electric vehicle tax credit, which is set to increase to a possible payout of $12,500 per electric car from the previous $7,500.
Since the beginning of 2021, people have been speculating about the electric vehicle tax credit, because the terms of the incentives are still in the early stages of determination. Double the number of qualified cars for each manufacturer from 200,000 to 400,000, while the amount of incentives is still widely pending. That was until the “Clean Energy for America” bill was introduced, it implied a potential $12,500 electric vehicle tax credit for cars under $80,000. The electric vehicle credit is US$7,500, the vehicle assembled in the United States receives an additional US$2,500 credit, and the potential credit for cars manufactured in a production facility where the worker is a union member or is represented by a union is US$2,500.
► According to Tesla news, the company confirmed to the NHTSA that it is recalling 2,791 Model Y and Model 3 vehicles over a suspension issue.
A quick glance at Tesla's online configurator will reveal that the estimated delivery times in new orders for some 2022 Tesla Model 3 and 2022 Tesla Model Y have increased again.
In both cases, the entry-level version is now expected to be launched in September 2022, Model Y Long Range was previously expected to be launched in August.
If the customer chooses the optional larger wheels that it costs 1,500$ for Model 3 and 2,000$ for Model Y, the time may be shortened by approximately three months. As far as we know, there is no shortage of wheels or tires, so this is simply Tesla’s profit maximization.
By the way, the Tesla Model 3 Performance is now estimated in December.
The paint color of the Tesla Giga Berlin was recently displayed through the company’s mobile app. Tesla app update 4.2.1 teased the first three paint colors available for Giga Berlin vehicles.
Tesla plans to produce Model Y at the Berlin Gigafactory first. In the recently updated source code of the Tesla app, three new color options are also mentioned: Deep Crimson Multicoat, Abyss Blue Multicoat, and Mercury Silver Metallic. Earlier this month, Elon Musk said that after Tesla owners noticed too many white Model 3 and Model Y vehicles on the road, he would discuss silver as the default paint option.
