Vocal Coach Reaction: EMMA KOK does a stunning version of "Defying Gravity" (Wicked, the musical)

IN this video, I discuss how Defying Gravity is a really challenging song to perform, especially for a young singer and young voice. Kids (and adult singers) love using it for auditions on TV Talent shows, as it is truly impressive it you can pull it off. However, besides the significant vocal demands the song poses, it also requires a level of maturity to understand and translate the character's emotion. Remember that in songs form musicals, you don't simply tell the story - like we do with most pop songs - you ARE the story.

When I say that our beloved Emma Kok also performed this song live, on a Dutch TC show, I thought it would be great to see how she fared with it. We chat about her voice and vocal skill, performance skills, maturity and interpretation - how all of this combined to give us a stunning performance of this song.
