Visiting the exhibition : PEINTRES D’ASIE, ART MODERNE VIETNAMIEN. Vente n°42 du 7 mars 2023

En 1924, il y a cent ans, Victor Tardieu remettait au gouverneur général Martial Merlin un rapport sur la nécessité d’ouvrir une école des beaux- arts à Hanoï. Il fut entendu, celle-ci fut instituée en octobre de la même année et la première promotion d’élèves sélectionnée fit sa rentrée à l’automne 1925.
En 2014, il y a dix ans, Aguttes découvrait à Paris l’œuvre Le Thé par Lê Phổ (l’un des élèves de cette première promotion). La maison de ventes aux enchères décida de lui offrir une visibilité particulière, ce qui lui permit d’atteindre un prix de vente juste et ce qui fût à l’origine du réveil d’un marché endormi depuis le milieu du XXe siècle.
Les résultats enregistrés ces dernières années sur ce secteur permettent d’attester d’un intérêt croissant et dynamique exprimé en vente aux enchères pour les grands noms de l’École des beaux-arts de l’Indochine. Sur ce marché international, marqué par une croissance forte depuis 2014, l’année 2023 a témoigné d’un certain ralentissement qui n’est pas surprenant.
La publication de mon ouvrage trilingue L’Art Moderne en Indochine (In Fine éditions d’art) en ce début d’année a pour vocation d’éclairer tout amateur d’art curieux et aussi, par cela, d’aider les potentiels enchérisseurs à mieux appréhender chaque œuvre avant de se positionner.
Que 2024, qui s’ouvre chez Aguttes le 7 mars par cette 42e vente dédiée, confirme par ses résultats la beauté du renouveau de l’art moderne vietnamien et le dynamisme des collectionneurs soucieux de préserver leur patrimoine !

Năm 1924, cách đây đúng một trăm năm, Victor Tardieu đã trình bày với Toàn quyền Martial Merlin bản báo cáo về sự cấp thiết phải mở một trường Mỹ thuật tại Hà Nội. Ý kiến của ông đã được chấp thuận và ngôi trường này được thành lập vào tháng 10 cùng năm. Lớp học sinh đầu tiên được tuyển chọn đã bắt đầu khóa học vào mùa thu năm 1925.
Năm 2014, cách đây mười năm, Aguttes đã phát hiện tác phẩm Le Thé của Lê Phổ (một trong những học sinh của khoá đầu tiên) tại Paris. Nhà đấu giá quyết định dành cho tác phẩm một vị trí đặc biệt trong phiên đấu giá, giúp cho tác phẩm đạt được mức giá bán phù hợp. Điều này cũng khơi nguồn cho sự thức tỉnh của một thị trường đã ngủ quên kể từ giữa thế kỷ XX.
Những kết quả ghi nhận được trong những năm gần đây trên thị trường chứng minh cho sự quan tâm ngày càng tăng của những người yêu nghệ thuật đối với những phiên đấu giá dành cho những tên tuổi lớn của trường Cao đẳng Mỹ thuật Đông Dương. Trên thị trường quốc tế, sau sự tăng trưởng mạnh mẽ kể từ năm 2014, không mấy bất ngờ khi vào năm 2023, thị trường đã dần chững lại.
Tác phẩm được viết bằng ba ngôn ngữ của tôi, L’Art Moderne en Indochine (Nghệ thuật Hiện đại Đông Dương) (In Fine éditions d’art), được phát hành vào đầu năm nay với mục đích cung cấp những kiến thức bổ ích cho người yêu nghệ thuật cũng như giúp khách hàng tiềm năng hiểu rõ hơn về mỗi tác phẩm trước khi quyết định tham gia đấu giá.
Hy vọng rằng năm 2024, mở đầu với phiên đấu giá lần thứ 42 tại Aguttes vào ngày 7 tháng 3 tới, sẽ đạt những kết quả tuyệt vời, chứng minh cho sự canh tân của nghệ thuật hiện đại Việt Nam và sự năng động của các nhà sưu tầm trong việc bảo tồn di sản của đất nước mình !

In 1924, one hundred years ago, Victor Tardieu submitted a report to Governor General Martial Merlin on the necessity of opening a fine arts school in Hanoi. The report was accepted, and the school was established in October of the same year, with the first class of selected students entering the school in the autumn of 1925.
In 2014, ten years ago, Aguttes discovered the work Le Thé by Lê Phổ (one of the students of this first class) in Paris. The auction house decided to give it special visibility, which enabled it to achieve a fair sale price and was the catalyst for the reawakening of a market that had been dormant since the mid-twentieth century.

The publication of my trilingual book L’Art Moderne en Indochine (In Fine éditions d’art) at the beginning of this year is intended to enlighten any curious art lover and also, through this, to help potential bidders to better apprehend each work before positioning themselves.
May 2024, which opens at Aguttes on March 7 with this 42 nd dedicated sale, confirm through its results the beauty of the revival of modern Vietnamese art and the dynamism of collectors anxious to preserve their heritage!
