With her large-scale art installations, Pritika Chowdhry, a Chicago-based artist, curator, and writer, revisits the history of the 1947 partition to comprehend that the effort of reconciliation with a disturbing past is incomplete without reminiscing about the wrongs perpetrated by high politicians. For Chowdhry, the foundational event of the 1947 partition could not be confined in the pages of history since its consequences do not fail to punctuate the current-day Indian subcontinent's social milieu and cultural fabric not once, but many times. Chowdhry tries to investigate and broaden the critical language on diversity, harmony, inclusion, and integrations through the current exhibition Unbearable Memories, Unspeakable Histories at the South Asia Institute in Chicago.
