Why Medieval Artists Drew Mary Beating Up Demons????

Medieval artists often showed Mary physically beating up demons because it symbolized her power over evil. Her purity was believed to be so strong that demons had no chance against her, so painters turned that idea into dramatic, almost cartoonish scenes where she literally smacks them around.
