'The Sound of Silence' is a classic folk rock song that was written by Paul Simon and featured on Simon & Garfunkel's 1964 debut album 'Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.' At the time of writing, Simon was only 21 years old. The song was initially released as an acoustic track but failed to gain much attention and led to the duo's split.
However, when Tom Wilson (the song's producer) remixed the song with electric instruments and drums, it became an instant commercial success, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Without the success of the remix, it is possible that the duo would have never reunited.
