"The Release from Deception" (also known as Il Disinganno) is a breathtaking marble sculpture by Italian sculptor Francesco Queirolo, completed in 1754. It is housed in the Sansevero Chapel in Naples, Italy.

The sculpture depicts a man—symbolizing a soul—being freed from a delicate yet intricate net by an angel. The net represents sin, vice, and deception, from which the figure is being released. The piece was commissioned by Raimondo di Sangro, Prince of Sansevero, in honor of his father, who, according to the prince, had lived a life clouded by errors before finding redemption.

One of the most astonishing aspects of the sculpture is the incredibly detailed marble net, which appears almost impossibly delicate and lifelike. It is said that other sculptors of the time refused to take on the challenge of carving such an intricate structure from a single block of marble, making Queirolo’s achievement even more remarkable. The angel, representing divine enlightenment, gently lifts the net, symbolizing the triumph of truth and redemption over deception and sin.

The sculpture remains one of the finest examples of Baroque artistry and continues to captivate visitors with its profound symbolism and masterful execution.
