Resonance occurs when a vibrating object causes another with the same frequency to vibrate. On a piano, this happens when you silently press a key and then play the same note an octave lower—after the lower note fades, the higher one continues to sound. This works with other notes too, as long as they share harmonic frequencies. You can also try pressing the lower C silently and playing the upper C to hear the effect.
