Zdzisław Beksiński, the Polish surrealist painter, was famous for his haunting and nightmarish art filled with death, decay, and apocalyptic visions. His paintings often showed skeletal figures, ruined landscapes, and ghostly corpses, which later made many believe he had “painted his own death.” In reality, Beksiński did not create one specific painting that directly predicted his murder, but since his entire body of work was obsessed with death and suffering, fans connected it to his tragic end. In February 2005, he was stabbed 17 times by his teenage neighbor after refusing to lend him money, and because of the dark themes in his art, people began to see his violent death as if it was foreshadowed in his paintings.
