Aiken, South Carolina, once had another mall. Kalmia Plaza opened in the late 1960's as a strip mall with Roses as one of its anchors, and by 1972 plans were being finalized to add an small enclosed mall to the property. Belk would leave downtown Aiken and relocate to the new center, however the mall struggled to gain tenants, before ultimately losing its Belk to the new Aiken Mall in the end.
Aiken Mall opened in 1989 with Sears, JCPenney, Belk, Phar-Mor and Brendles. However, similar to the Kalmia Mall, it would struggle for most of its life, likely losing out on dollars going to Augusta and its mega malls at the time. The Aiken Mall closed in the late 2010's and now has been demolished with plans to build a lifestyle development. The Belk and Dillards building are all that remain.
