This bassline is played over the F# Minor Scale. But there’s something that I want you to pay attention to.
Notice when he plays the A-E and B-F# notes he is using what we call the 1-5 shape. The idea is that the lower note is the 1 and the next is the 5th. So whenever we play any fret and move up 2 frets and up a string, we get the shape.
We can see this present in countless basslines. It is a great way to navigate chords also, specially as a beginner when you are not sure what the different kinds of chords are. The 1-5 shape could be used over most kinds of chords.
