A plane carrying convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester and his girlfriend, Nandipha Magudumana, landed at Lanseria Airport, north of Johannesburg, earlier this morning from Tanzania. They were arrested in the East African country last week after fleeing South Africa when Bester's escape was confirmed by prison authorities. Officials flew to Tanzania at the weekend to facilitate their return to the country. Bester escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein in May last year after faking his death in a fire. Last month, authorities conceded Bester had escaped after news website GroundUp revealed that the body found in the cell was not Bester's. Bester and Magudumana went on the run until they were tracked down and arrested while trying to make their way to Kenya. Meanwhile, another person charged in connection with Bester's escape will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates' Court today. Police announced yesterday that they had arrested a 44-year-old man who worked for a company that installs and maintains cameras at the Mangaung Correctional Centre.
