South Korea’s impeached former president Yoon Suk Yeol has once again defied investigators. This time, by reportedly refusing to cooperate while lying down in his prison cell, dressed only in underwear. On Thursday, prosecutors obtained a fresh arrest warrant against Yoon as part of an ongoing probe into allegations of election tampering. Authorities attempted to bring him in for questioning, but were unable to proceed due to his noncompliance. Yoon, currently detained on insurrection charges following a brief imposition of martial law last December, has ignored two separate summons issued by the special counsel. He and his wife are suspected of receiving free opinion polls from self-proclaimed political broker Myung Tae-kyun ahead of the 2022 presidential election. In exchange, Yoon allegedly promised an illegal nomination to a former People Power Party lawmaker during a by-election later that year. He also faces accusations of making false statements during the 2021 primaries regarding his wife’s alleged role in a stock price manipulation scheme, a potential violation of election laws.
