Eugenia Martínez Vallejo (1674–1699), often referred to by the cruel nickname "La Monstrua" (The Monster), was a Spanish girl famous for her presence at the royal court of King Charles II.

Early Life: Born to a poor family in Bárcenas, Spain, she exhibited extreme childhood obesity from a very young age. By age six, she reportedly weighed approximately 70 kilograms (155 lbs).


Court Life: In 1680, she was brought to the Madrid court to serve as a "person of pleasure" or jester. In 17th-century European courts, individuals with physical atypicalities were often displayed as curiosities for the amusement of the aristocracy.


Medical Theory: Modern medical experts believe her condition was likely Prader-Willi syndrome, a genetic disorder characterized by hyperphagia (an insatiable appetite) and metabolic issues.

She is immortalized in two significant oil-on-canvas portraits by the court painter Juan Carreño de Miranda, both held at the Museo del Prado in Madrid:
La Monstrua Vestida (The Monster Clothed): Depicts her in a rich red dress adorned with white flowers, typical of court attire.
La Monstrua Desnuda (The Monster Nude): A rare and controversial depiction for the era, showing her as Bacchus with grapes and vine leaves. Some observers note that she appears to be crying in this portrait.
