Ukrainian pianist Daria Sannikova performs the "Dance" by Ihor Shamo (Игорь Шамо, 1925-1982).
Shamo was born in Kyiv to a family of Jewish origin. He graduated from the Lysenko Music School in Kyiv, where his main subjects were composition and piano, in 1941, and was evacuated in that year to Ufa, where he studied medicine for two years. From 1942 to 1946 he was in the Soviet Army as a medical assistant; when he returned to Kyiv he recommenced his musical studies, graduating from the Kyiv Conservatory in 1951 in the class of Boris Lyatoshinsky. His popular song "Києве мій!" (My Kyiv) is regarded as the "unofficial anthem of the Ukrainian capital"
Daria Sannikova (born 2005) has moved to Lithuania from the war-devastated Kharkiv and found home at the National M. K. Čiurlionis Arts School. Starting her music education at the age of six at the Kharkiv Music School No. 15 she went on to win numerous awards at international youth competitions, including the Volodymir Krainev Competition in Kharkiv, the Balys Dvarionas Competition in Vilnius, and the Nouvelles Etoiles.
