In this Tennis Masterclass, I talk about an incredibly useful tip to win important points during your matches: the serve and volley.

Historically, there were tennis players who were specialists of the serve and volley across the 80s and 90s: John McEnroe, Yannick Noah, Pat Cash, Stefan Edberg, Pat Rafter, Pete Sampras… The list goes on. While the decision to slow down surfaces on Tour has made this tactic less common, there are still several advantages to employing the serve and volley in your game.

Firstly, if you use it at the right time, you can surprise your opponent and win important points during a tennis match (something that Alcaraz and Djokovic have been doing to great effect recently). Secondly, for leisure players, courts haven’t been slowed down and when the surface is fast, this type of game play is a killer!

In this video, I talk about how your serve will impact the implementation of this strategy. I also look at where to serve for maximum effect, and where you should be positioning yourself and your volley. We break down the best points to use serve and volley in a match, and I share a handful of helpful tips to get started incorporating this tactic into your game.
