Whimsical clay sculptures by California artist Karen "Quincey" Grace whose studio is in The American Museum of Ceramic Arts Studio in Pomona, CA. Her figures are made of soldate 60, house white, or Laguna Clay Company's Mexo White clay. She uses under glazes, transfers, acrylic paints, glazes, beads, wire, found objects, and sealer to complete her unique sculptures. Her website is quinceygrace.com. Quincey Grace's sculptures and painted/decoupaged furniture have sold at galleries on Madison Avenue, NYC; Scottsdale, AZ; San Antonio, TX; Claremont, CA; Pomona, CA; Sedona, AZ; Laguna Beach, CA; Malibu, CA; La Jolla, CA; and Corona del Mar, CA.
She draws her inspiration from painted portraits, real faces, and her imagination.
Her goal is to celebrate everyday faces--not idealized versions of what society says the perfect man or woman should look like.
Bright colors and shiny objects delight her so they abound in her artistic work.
Because she is mostly self-taught, she created a novel armature system over which to places her clay when she sculpts each figurine, which utilizes fabric, would, and pillow stuffing. her armatures are completely reusable, which is in keeping with her philosophy that we should recycle more.
