Have you wondered why a real piano or super high-end digital sounds so much better than a standard digital piano? One of the pieces that is missing from a lot of synthesizers and digital pianos is harmonics.
This fun trick is something you can do to test whether your keyboard has it or not.
It works with sympathetic frequencies.
If you hold down a C and play a C 1 octave above or below, you should hear something after letting go of the secondary note. Same goes for holding C and playing G or F.
This trick will work with all the perfect intervals. The further apart the frequencies are the quieter it will be. The more dissonant the interval is, the less likely you are to hear anything.
If you have a real piano, you can also test out your tuning and dampers. If you get a sound that is too loud or a note that shouldn't be making noise, you might need to get a piano tech out to look at it.
