Paul Wuensche is a London-based figurative artist. He has exhibited at the BP Portrait Awards, The Discerning Eye and the Royal Society of Portrait painters, aswell as having solo shows at the Assembly Rooms Gallery and 9 Langton Street.
He first studied art at the age of 11 with the late George Israel R.A, who infused him with a love of colour, tone and oil paint.
While continuing to paint throughout his teens, and winning several awards, he initially pursued his interest in literature and languages, specializing in Dante and attaining First Class Honours at Cambridge University, but soon after decided to commit himself entirely to art and enrolled as a postgraduate student at the New York Academy of Art, a school founded by Andy Warhol (among other people) that specializes in figurative art and traditional skills. He majored in drawing.
While in New York he became associate editor of Mudfish Poetry magazine, contributing both art and poetry and acting as art editor.
He undertakes portrait commissions and has painted people from all works of life including the author/illustrator Jan Pienkowski, the actor Jotham Annan, one CEO, one CIO, a poet, a faith healer, a very handsome beagle called Woody, and a 3 year old girl called Kaia.
The ‘humble’ still life is one of his great interests. A world in which the artist can lose him/herself in light and colour. He is also fascinated by the personality of objects and the way they seem to embody human qualities.
He also paints landscapes throughout the year, and is a founding member of the itinerant group ‘Art Convoy’.
