In the second part of our series on setting up a new guitar, as shown on this IYV ITA 450 Telecaster style electric guitar, we focus on fret leveling and dressing. There are a number of methods out there for fret leveling, but my preference is for the permanent marker. By marking the top of each fret with a marker then using a fret leveling block, you can visibly see the leveling action in process which highlights problem areas quickly and easily. Once the leveling is complete, polishing the frets and dressing the ends provides an excellent improvement in playability and will allow lower action with less buzz. Take a look!
