Orchester des Palais de Danse, Berlin – Aisha, Two-Step (Lindsay) Beka Grand Record, c. 1913 (Germany)
NOTE: The Palais de Danse was one of the exclusive nightlife venues in Wilhelminian Berlin. Located on Behrenstrasse - parallel to Unter den Linden in the area of Brandenburger Tor and the Hotel Adlon - it was built in 1909 in the eclectic Zweites Rococo style as the Metropol Theatre. It was soon converted into a large casino, consisting of a ballroom (Palais de Dance) and the Pavillon Mascotte restaurant. In 1934, the Palais de Dance ballroom was converted into the Atlantis Casino and eventually into the Atlantis-Kabarett, where four first-class dance orchestras, including Billy Bartolomew and Corny Ostermann, performed. During the Second World War, the building was completely destroyed and today the Komische Oper stands in its place.
The members and leader of the Palais de Danse orchestra remain unknown, The ensemble was a typical ballroom orchestra that played popular dance pieces of the time, such as ragtimes, two-steps, waltzes and tangos, and was described as "the best in Berlin" in the days before the First World War.
