This is long overdue but I finally put together a new recipe that I'm really happy with! Great consistency, dries super clear, and the cells and lacing HOLD. If you're new to fluid art and/or the bloom technique, this is the video for you. If you're happy with your current recipe, feel free to skip the mixing tutorial and jump to this timestamp to get right to the art: 19:34.This is a 20x20 big bloom blowout and tilt, and the colors blue/green/gold was selected to test for an upcoming commission. I LOVED the blowout and composition, but am very disappointed (again) in the performance of the PPG MultiPro (the base paint). Once again it had so many air bubbles that once the once I was finished tilting and spinning, the pop and leave white speckles everywhere. I'm breaking up with PPG MultiPro again! I will use Color To Go (satin) in extra white until I can find a replacement. Anyway, I hope you find this video helpful and the art to your liking! Let me know what you think in the comments! xoxo K

THE RECIPE:

House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate: PPG MultiPro in Satin from Home Depot

Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:

Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); Infinity Semi-Gloss Base C Untinted (Lowe's). 50/50: JoSonja Gloss Varnish OR Minwax Polyacrylic Gloss. I use a quart measuring cup (HD + get a lid) well. Mix up 12 oz. of the Behr 8300; 6 oz. of the Infinity, and 4 oz of varnish or the water-based polyacrylic to make 22 ounces of pouring medium. Stir well.

Use the colors and brands of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix:

Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium; mix well. Recommend a mask to mix.

For any brand fluid or high flow acrylics: I put 2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.

For tube paint (medium or heavy body paint), I added an 1/2 ounce of paint (1/2 teaspoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden's High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) OR water, and stir well.

Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Light Gold, 2.5 -1 ratio Australian Floetrol to paint.
