In 2013, a collection of private photographs dating back to World War I surfaced in northern France. A handful of the images show someone in a New Zealand lieutenant’s uniform and hat standing alongside a fellow officer. Other pictures feature one man with a woman on his knee. A closer look reveals that the woman is clearly also the person wearing the lieutenant’s uniform and hat in the other photos.
