"FLOWER DRUM SONG" is a play by Rodgers and Hammerstein, creators of "The Sound of Music" and "The King and I".
The play opened at the St. James Theatre on Broadway in 1958 after tryouts in Boston with a main cast of Asian actors nominated for a Tony Award. In 1961, a film adaptation was made based on the musical.
In 2002, a revival by Tony Award-winning writer David Henry Hwang was staged. In 2022, the revival was staged for the first time in Japan.
