When a tree fell in one Minnesota couple’s front yard in 2017, they decided to commission an artist to turn it into a giant pencil! ✏️???? The sculpture even has the words “Trusty,” “Made in the USA,” and “No. 2” carved into it — just like the Shelby, Tennessee-made American icon: the Trusty pencil. Each year, a crowd of ~1,000 people gathers to see the sharpening of this 20-foot-tall “Lake of the Isles Pencil.” It’s already been sharpened this year, but make a point to go see it anyway — it’s a write of passage! ✍️????
