A Brazilian judge has ordered the global removal of Adele's 2015 song "Million Years Ago" after a plagiarism claim by Brazilian musician Toninho Geraes. Geraes accused Adele of copying his song "Mulheres," a Brazilian hit from the 1990s. The ruling, issued on December 16, 2024, demands that Universal and Sony Music cease the song's distribution worldwide. The companies face a fine for each violation. Geraes' lawyer, Fredimio Biasotto Trotta, praised the decision, asserting that it reflects the strength of Brazil's justice system in protecting local artists' rights. Universal Music is currently appealing the decision.
