Also, Michelangelo painted one of the priests who was very critical of his use of nudity in painting the Sistine Chapel, naked and damned in the last judgement and he signed it "Michelangelo, the sculptor”.

In Michelangelo’s poem to his friend, Giovanni Da Pistoia, he describes the work as torture and how physically tormenting the process of painting was for him.

These are the last lines of the poem btw:

My painting is dead.
Defend it for me, Giovanni, protect my honor.
I am not in the right place—I am not a painter.”
