Check out how we make a metric modulation from 4/4 to 3/4 (actually, 6/4). Quarter note triplets in the old time become the "new" quarter note pulse.

TIP: Repeating the rhythm that becomes the new quarter note can help you make the metric modulation & feel the new pulse. Notice (circled) how the quarter note triplet is played 10 times in a row; by playing it several times in a row that helps us feel the new pulse.

This metric modulation is not something I had planned on doing going into this take, but the beauty of solo piano is that you can spontaneously go in different directions, like changing the meter or even the key, unlike with a live rhythm section.
