MATCHANu I Trailer

Matchanu is a performance that draws inspiration from Thai classical masked dance (khon) and French baroque music to create a new work that imagines the story of Matchanu: a half-monkey, half-fish being, and symbol of our own dualities. Musical direction by Sallynee Amawat and choreography by Benjamin Tardif. Filmed and recorded in Montreal and Bangkok, featuring music performed on period instruments by some of Montreal’s leading interpreters of historical performance practice and dancers from the Department of Fine Arts at Thai National Theater.

Matchanu est un spectacle qui s’inspire de la danse classique masquée thaïlandaise (khon) et de la musique baroque française. Sous la direction musicale de Sallynee Amawat ainsi qu'une chorégraphie signée Benjamin Tardif, cette nouvelle œuvre, imagine la petite histoire de Matchanu, un être mi-singe mi-poisson, symbole de nos propres dualités. Filmé et enregistré à Montréal et Bangkok, ce spectacle musical est interprété sur des instruments d'époque par certains des meilleurs interprètes montréalais de la musique ancienne jumelés à des danseurs traditionels du Département des Beaux-Arts du Théâtre National Thaïlandais.

"มัจฉานุ" เป็นงานการแสดงที่นำนาฏศิลป์ไทยอย่างโขนและดนตรีบาโรกฝรั่งเศสซึ่งเป็นศิลปะสองแบบจากสองทวีปมาประยุกต์รวมกันเพื่อสร้างผลงานศิลปะใหม่ที่เล่าถึงถึงเรื่องราวของมัจฉานุครึ่งวานรครึ่งปลาการผสมกันของสัตว์ที่แตกต่างกันอย่างสิ้นเชิงได้อย่างลงตัวเฉกเช่นเดียวกับศิลปะต่างรากมารวมกัน ออกแบบกระบวนท่ารำโดย เบญจมินทร์ ตาดี และกำกับดนตรีโดย สาลีนี อัมมวรรธน์ ถ่ายทำและบันทึกใน Montreal และกรุงเทพฯ โดยมีนักแสดงจากโรงละครแห่งชาติ กรมศิลปากร และดนตรีที่บรรเลงด้วยเครื่องดนตรี Baroque โดยล่ามชั้นนำของ Montreal เกี่ยวกับการแสดงเชิงประวัติศาสตร์
