The uniqueness of the art of malay woodcarving is undeniable and is only made possible by professional woodcarvers. Woodcarving is not easy, as different carvings bring different meanings and has connections to all sorts of things like history, social status, life philosophies, the environment that’s created by the almighty, the theory of heaven and earth and natural lives. Not everyone is able to portray these meanings through their craft, especially if they don’t seek the knowledge and skills required from the masters of malay woodcarving, who are slowly decreasing in numbers unfortunately. The heritage of the art of malay woodcarving is the dignity of the malays.
