Walking bass doesn't have to be complicated. Simple major and minor triads are very effective at outlining the chord progression and - with some thought and preparation - can be played in melodic and interesting ways. Check out Sam Jones' walking bass line to Autumn Leaves from the Cannonball Adderley album, "Somethin' Else". His playing really is... somethin' else. Sorry.
