In this video I show how to use the nice and renice commands on Linux. You will learn what niceness means, the allowed priority range (-20 to 19), how to start a process with a specified niceness using nice -n, how to check niceness with ps -o pid, comm, nice, and how to change the priority of a running process using sudo renice. I demonstrate examples with background jobs (ampersand), explain permission requirements for negative niceness, and show what happens when values are out of range. Works the same on common distros like Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS and Fedora.
